Is LinkedIn Facing a Real Threat?
Andrew Hutchison's Social Media Today article, "Facebook's Testing Out New Resume-Like Option, Similar to LinkedIn, discusses Facebook's new, bold move into the business scope. Could companies like Facebook and Bumble, with their new Bumble Bizz drive LinkedIn out of operation. LinkedIn currently has around 500 million professionals on their site, so the initial worry would be the millennial generation.
How it Works:
To Note: You have always been able to link your Facebook profile to a past job. Now, it allows you to develop more of an idea of what the job entailed with specific information.
Because of the current data and massive user ship Facebook holds, they have huge potential to make the job search easier, not only for millennials but also older generations.
The Highlights:
To Note: This will get a more specific, relatable job search going for every individual. Hutchison suggests that Facebook may be able to get a more accurate job listing than LinkedIn based on the data they have.
Lastly, Facebook added a screen-sharing option. All of these advances could move Facebook even further on top in terms of social networking, so keep a look out!

Wow! Facebook just keeps taking over spaces and growing. It is interesting that it takes the ideas of smaller social apps and makes them better for their larger audience. Personally, I see Facebook as less informal than LinkedIn. I like having the separation of the two because I use my personal social accounts like Facebook to stay in touch with friends in other states. LinkedIn for me is more about connecting with professionals in my industry, so I hope that it will not fade away with this new Facebook edition. It would be a great asset if it had better technology to match people with jobs because that is a large problem for companies when recruiting. I am interested to see how this progresses!
ReplyDeleteI hope that LinkedIn remains the standard professional site. Like Holly mentioned above, I prefer the separation of Facebook, which I view as more laid-back, and LinkedIn, where I search for jobs. Moreover, for every feature that Facebook has added, the more convoluted and confusing the site is to me. I am not a fan of most of their extra services as I find them difficult to navigate and use.
ReplyDeleteI did not know this, and am excited to see what Facebook does. I like LinkedIn, but have to admit that Facebook might have the power to replace it. I'll be waiting to see what is going on.
